Legal Tech Helper in Docacon 2023 Docassemble Showcase
Legal Tech Helper was delighted to have the opportunity to present the Mental Health Legal Centre’s Online Help service as a case study to the global docassemble user community.
Docacon 2023 is the conference of the docassemble user community and took place at Suffolk University Law School in Boston, Massachusetts USA as an add-on conference to LITCon 2023.

Legal Tech Helper guest speaker at International Women’s Day event
In honour of International Women’s Day and this year’s UN theme "DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality" Legal Tech Helper’s Co-Founder Samantha Lovrich was invited by Australian law firm Lander + Rogers to speak about the experience of being an all female-founded legal tech company.
Whilst there were relatively low barriers to entry in starting a company, Samantha spoke about the time it has taken to build social capital and traction, the low change appetite in the legal industry and limited access to funding as significant challenges as female founders.
Samantha spoke about the importance of elevating the voices of women in tech, employing and promoting them, backing female founded companies by investing in them if you can or by buying their products or services. Law firms have the opportunity to partner and collaborate with female-founded businesses. Samantha warned that without clients or funding to grow, they will remain micro or small businesses, or disappear altogether.

Research finds smart self-help online tool aids mental health consumers and their families
Research by CQ University found that Mental Health Legal Centre’s Online Help tool built by Legal Tech Helper provided mental health legal information to hundreds of users, and increased MHLC’s capacity to help clients in the first three months since its launch.
CQ University researchers concluded that “Online Help represents a promising early foray into developing self-help resources in the mental health law space. It highlights a fresh role for families in supporting mental health consumers, and demonstrates the ongoing importance of consumer-focused approaches to mental health services.”

Review of Legal Tech Helper’s project with Mental Health Legal Centre
Legal Tech Helper’s project with Victoria’s Mental Health Legal Centre was reviewed in the Law Institute of Victoria’s Law Institute Journal (December 2022 Issue) .
Legal Tech Helper worked closely with Mental Health Legal Centre and CQUniversity to develop MHLC Online Help to provide targeted legal information and resources to mental health consumers, their families, friends and carers and referring organisations.
It was developed in response to the acute need in Victoria and across Australia to expand mental health law knowledge and understanding.

Legal Tech Helper is proud to have contributed to the world-leading playbook for women on a legal technology journey. Co-founders Samantha Lovrich and Tatiana Lenz contributed to chapters on how to build your legal tech product or service and how to connect and find your legal tech tribes.
The ePlaybook is designed to help women at any stage of their journey in forming or progressing with their own legal tech company. It includes practical guidance, dos and don’t and lessons learnt, often the hard way, by experienced female founders. Importantly, includes the rich and informative stories of different female founders in Australia.

Legal Tech Helper named finalists in the 2022 Australian Legal Technology Association Awards
Legal Tech Helper is proud to be finalists in the inaugural ALTA Awards for our work in co-designing and developing MHLC Online Help in a collaboration with Mental Health Legal Centre and CQUniversity.
The ALTA Awards celebrate the success and importance of the Australian legal technology ecosystem in supporting innovation, impact and access to justice across the broader legal community.
Legal Tech Helper was nominated in the Small & Mighty category which recognises the best example of collaboration between a small/ mid tier law stakeholder and technology provider to implement a solution in Australia.
Legal Tech Helper, Mental Health Legal Centre and CQUniversity was also nominated as a team in the Social Impact category which recognises an individual, team or organisation who has removed barriers and furthered access to justice for the broader Australian community through an innovative product or idea.
An aim for MHLC Online Help is to reduce the cognitive load on people who may already be overwhelmed dealing with a complex mental health system.
MHLC Online Help was developed using a collaborative and agile process with all the partners. Its design and iteration was informed by quantitative and qualitative data analysis, user research and usability testing with consumers, carers and other stakeholders.

Legal Tech Helper supports people with mental health challenges navigating legal system
Legal Tech Helper was proud to collaborate with the Mental Health Legal Centre in Victoria and CQUniversity to develop MHLC Online Help to help people with mental health challenges navigate the legal system.
Anyone can use MHLC Online Help to find targeted information about services offered by the legal centre and referral options if they cannot help.
Samantha Lovrich from Legal Tech Helper said:
“MHLC Online Help has been informed by the Mental Health Legal
Centre’s experiences with mental health consumers and their
family, carers and other stakeholders.
Our goals in building the web application were to make it
user-friendly and accessible, and to protect the anonymity of users."

"We are ensuring that those who are accessing legal information
online are provided with targeted and clear information in an
efficient manner. Notably, family members, friends and carers
of consumers can receive support through this web application.”

services for consumers and those with mental health challenges.

Legal Tech Helper recently joined the new Justice Technology Association as a member. The Justice Technology Association is a global association with a mission to democratise the consumer legal experience through the use of technology for the public good.

Legal Tech Helper contributes to Women of Australian Legal Technology Association
As a member of Women of Australian Legal Technology Association (WALTA), Legal Tech Helper recently contributed to The WALTA ePlaybook. Legal Tech Helper contributed to two chapters on how to validate your legal tech idea and how to connect and find your legal tech tribe.
The ePlaybook is designed to help women starting on their journey to form their own LegalTech companies.It includes practical guidance, dos and don’t and lessons learnt, often the hard way, by experienced female founders. It will form part of the new WALTA Resources Hub.
The ePlaybook is the first WALTA project to be initiated after WALTA’s official launch in April 2022 (see the event documented at alta.law/walta/launch). This follows the 2021 ALTA/WALTA “Diversity in Legal Tech - It’s Time for Action” research paper, and the work of WALTA working groups in 2021 to create plans to address three ‘calls to action’ to increase funding opportunities, visibility and resources for female founders and participants in Australian LegalTech. Legal Tech Helper was pleased to participate in the working group aimed at increasing the visibility of female founders and women in legal tech.

Legal Tech Helper at NewLaw Career Summit
Legal Tech Helper’s Co-Founder Samantha Lovrich was a speaker on the LegalTech Developer panel as part of the Centre for Legal Innovation’s NewLaw Career Summit on 16 May 2022.
Legaltech is the key enabler of legal innovation and the legal industry’s transformation. It makes legal work better, easier and delivered faster and cheaper. It’s at the top of the list as a driver for continuous improvement but it’s also a large investment of time and money for any business. The role of a legaltech developer is about understanding this context, working with clients, and then creating solutions that anticipate, exceed expectations, and deliver real value.

Legal Tech Helper in women in legal tech report
Legal Tech Helper was pleased to be included in the world’s first report on gender diversity in legal technology produced by the Australian Legal Technology Association with Alpha Creates and PEXA.
Only 21% of Australian legal tech founders are women and funding is a critical roadblock for female founders. The report’s key recommendations were to increase the visibility of female founders, increase funding opportunities and women’s representation in legal tech decision making.
Legal Tech Helper is a proud member of the Australian Legal Technology Association and the Women of Australian Legal Technology Association (WALTA).

Legal Tech Helper Virtual Demo
Legal Tech Helper demonstrated Divorce Helper as part of the Centre for Legal Innovation’s Legal Techy Tuesday series in association with the Lander & Rogers LegalTech Hub.
